Christmas bread is such a delicious and filling Christmas Treat. I prefer to eat it with just butter or butter and cheese, but I know some people who like it best with different kinds of jam. Traditionally its made with citron, but I have decided to not include it in my recipe because a) I don’t like it so much and b) I do not think we have it (but to be honest I didn’t check…)
Ingredients
Dry:
- 500 g flour
- 100 g sugar
- 12 g dry yeast = 50 g of fresh yeast
- 2/3 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/3 tsp salt
Wet:
- 3.5 dl milk
- 100 g melted butter
- 1 egg
Other:
- 100 g raisins
- Optional: 100 g citron
Instructions
- Mix all the dry ingredients together
- In a new bowl, mix all the wet ingredients together
- Use a mixer to mix these together
- Let it rise for minimum of 30 minutes
- Add 100 g raisins
- Add the flour to the right consistency
- Optional: Divide the dough into two pieces of bread*
- Let it rise again for 45 min
- Brush with a beaten egg
- Bake at 180 degrees for about 40 minutes*
*When I was done baking I thought my bread was too big, so next time I will divide my dough into two pieces. Please note this will change the baking time, I would start with 15-20 minutes and just go from there…
