An about page is probably one of the most important aspects of a blog. So if you do not already have one, make one ASAP! The biggest mistake you can make in blogging would probably be not having one. Fear not, I have some great tips for your about page!
What to include:
- Your name and location.
- When you started your blog.
- What encouraged you to first start blogging?
- What inspires you.
- Your personal style.
- What you blog about.
Mistake 1: You do not have an about page!
I would say there is really no good excuse to not having an about page. You may not liking to talk about yourself, but guess what – your about page is not just about you! And please, please, please call it “About”. Keep it really simple and do not try to make up weird clever names for it.
Mistake 2: You write in third person (write in first person! Its your blog!)
I know you write your blog. Every single blog post is written in the first person. Why would you then write your about page in the third person. There is really no point, everyone knows you wrote it (unless you got someone else to do it, doubt it).
Mistake 3: Not giving up your name.
Some say write your full name in as much detail as possible so that people will remember you, easier to be found in search engines and so on. I disagree. I am perfectly happy being just Trine.
Lets face it, this is the Internet and at least I do not feel comfortable having my entire name on my blog. If I have to include my last name in anything when signing up I will use the first or the first two letters of my last name. That is what I am comfortable with and I do not see any reason why I should need to be anything other than Trine from Creative Pink Butterfly.
Mistake 4: You have no pictures of yourself.
Seriously people, I want to know what you look like! Preferably on the top right corner of your blog. I hate it when I imaging what a person may look like and they end up totally different (for example: I think the person writing this blog is a 20-year old blond when it in reality is a 40-year old brunette).
Mistake 5: No way to contact you.
Lets face it, people on the Internet are lazy. I am not trying to offend anyone, but the readers don’t care if you have a contact page right next to your about page (they have to scroll all the way up to find out). Make it simple for them. At the end of your post add your email address and even your social media accounts, such as Facebook, Pinterest etc. If they like what you read they may want to follow you there.
Mistake 6: Your about page is too long
Please do not write a 5000 word essay on your life story in your about page. Keep it simple. I would write a short 5-7 line paragraph introduction where a reader get to know the basics of you and your blog. Then write more detailed under. Please include pictures when relevant! And link to your blog posts!
Where to get inspiration?
Check out your favorite blogs! Here are some of mine:
There are a lot of different elements I like from each of these about pages, now I just have to incorporate this into my own page. I hope you learned something new today. If you have any other ideas to share please leave a comment below.

I always struggle with my about me page and have kept it a simple Q&A style page and I’ve answered most of the things you recommend so at least I know I’m on the right track 🙂
